The surgery solves a problem of individual shape deviations of the nose. The outside shape defect might be combined with a breathing disorder, therefore, the intervention of an ORL specialist is sometimes necessary. The surgery is usually carried out as general on the bony and cartilaginous part of the nose, in less cases on the cartilaginous lower third of the nose. Scars are located inside the mucosa but during the healing inside scars between the skin and operated area are forming. Thicker inner scars form mainly in the area of the tip of the nose and above and they can negatively influence a good shape reached by the surgery. Greasy skin with distinctive pores and blood vessels inclines more to this scar formation. Also skin with low elasticity, which is decreasing with a higher age, is not suitable for this surgery. The surgery is performed under general or local anaesthesia, hospitalization is not usually longer than 24 hours after the operation. Convalescence lasts 10 - 15 days according to the type of surgery and necessary length of external gypsum fixation. Endotamponade for 3 to 5 days. Post-surgery pain is minimum. Healing is a long-term process, the result of the surgery can be judged after 2 months earliest, finally after 1 year. For two months we do not recommend the activities which bring the risk of nose injury. For 2 - 3 months after the surgery pressure massages are carried out according to the instructions. The lower age limit is set by the end of growth (17 - 18 years of age), the upper limit is set by the type, quality and elasticity of skin, then by psychological reasons thus it is individual but the recommended age limit is 35 - 40 years. The indication for the surgery is also set by overall health or medication which can represent a risk for the operation and healing.
